Happy anniv to Max & me

Happy 2 week anniversary to Max and me and it was a pretty good day all in all - perfect? - come on, this IS Mexico. So, the day started as yesterday ended with the plumbing problem. I was going to wait for David my fixup guy to show up, but that's not me, so I started with hot water down the upper drain and pretty soon it, and the 2 bottles of draino last night, apparently did the trick. It was still early and so I started working on cleaning up some of the lime deposits on the sink in the powder room then the bar and got it all looking very good, acceptable even.

I decided it was time for a shower and the shower here could have been a bit better planned, they generally don't have a door on them, so just a 6' high wall of glass brick and the problem is you have to basically be in the shower to turn it on, so you reach in, flip the hot water on and jump back out all in one graceful, but sudden, choreographed move as the cold water sprays out. You wait a bit, then wjem it's warm enough you get in and go for it. Today it didn't seem very hot, so later I went down to check the heater, the pilot light had gone out, probably the wind storm last evening, the water heaters are outside and so guess that's another quirk to be dealt with.

Then it was time to talk to Mom in Denver and Vonage is now working so that went well. Later I got a call from friend George who was on his cell phone, isn't it amazing, calling from his truck in Austin to me like a local call and I pick up here. I got a call from the Republican Party the other day, I told them they were talking to a guy in MX and I still vote, but that's about the extent of my involvement - there was a long silence and then "but your phone number is in Austin" - I told them to get used to it, telephone numbers don't mean anything anymore and take me off the call list thank you.

Then I got busy moving the guest bedroom. The other day I realized they had the bed in the sitting room which has no door, so I dragged everything back to the bedroom and now the sitting room has a fireplace? It's also where the desk is going to end up when I get my new one.

I did some exploring and more and more I realize how fortunate I was to get this house, almost all the developments are more or less "row houses" with shared walls, that's way too confining for me and Max, we like to look out and see things, especially green things that Pedro keeps looking so nice.

Then I stopped by the Pemex to invest in some gas, here's the lesson for the day: It took 66.3 liters to fill it up at $465p. So, a gallon is 3.78L which means it took 17.54 gals of gas and now the conversion is about 10.8 pesos per dollar, so it actually cost $43.06 which ultimately ends up being $2.45 per gallon - I think? And, they pump it, they wash your windshield and all you do is pay for it and tip them when they're finished.

But, the bonus for all this was that I looked at the center adjacent to the Pemex and shazaam, a Subway! So, this evening I went down and got a sub for dinner.

After the Pemex fillup I swung by Rustico to see if the tables were ready, but they were being fitted for glass, so maybe manana - they're big on glass tops down here, Many of the surfaces are glass, guess it's easy and easy to clean.

Then the real bonus for the day, as though it hadn't already been great, I stopped by the pool supply/mailbox and again, shazaam (lightening did strike twice) the USPS actually sent some mail through to me and one was the title to the Jeep and the other an unexpected check for $233.11 in excess escrow from the house mortgage and according to insurance and cable both are also sending refunds and even ATT is showing a credit for $18, just what I need, SHOW ME THE PESOS!

I swapped links with the Ajijic City Guide today so they're going to carry the weather station on their site and I listed them on mine.

Oh, David and the sinks? - never saw hide nor hair of him, so guess I'll hook up the kitchen tomorrow myself rather than do without until Monday. Or, I may have a go at one of the big malls in GDL. I would like a couple of things that aren't to be found here at the lake, so it may be grande tour tomorrow, but I have some specific directions that should keep me from getting lost.
